Toronto Strikes Again!

imgresI think the Toronto Blue Jays are trying to send a message. Well consider this message received. Two days after pulling off a blockbuster trade to obtain former Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Alex Anthopoulos made yet another stunning move. Mere hours after Detroit had said that they were listening to offers on their free agents to be, Anthopoulos pulled off another unbelievable move and obtained David Price from the Detroit Tigers. Now a couple days ago I wrote an article saying how Toronto needed to get pitching. Instead they went and got Tulowitzki. Now they shocked the world yet again and obtained arguably the best free agent pitcher to be.

The Blue Jays already have a potent offense. Now they just obtained a true ace pitcher. They have just sent a message to the rest of the American League East. They want to play in October. Consider the message read. Anthopoulos isn’t playing around anymore. By having a lineup that has Tulowitzki hitting lead off instead of being in the middle order is a lineup that is scary. Now that their pitching staff has a true ace leading them, they are poised to make a deep October run. Of course adding one pitcher doesn’t mean that they are guaranteed to play in the postseason, but it definitely helps.

In any trade you have to give to get. Toronto paid a deep price to obtain a possible two-month player. They gave up Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd, and Jairo Labourt. The biggest name in that group is Daniel Norris. He was Toronto’s number one prospect. These three players are important to Detroit because their farm system was depleted. They had nobody ranked in the top 100-prospect list. What this means is that Detroit can rebuild their farm system by trading away their better players. Sure it’s going to be a rough couple years for the Tigers, but they will build for the future and reclaim the American League Central again.

The Blue Jays have sent a message. They are ready to go back to the postseason. Watch for Toronto to make a thrilling AL East ride with the Yankees. They can certainly hit their way there. Now that they have a true ace, they’re going to start pitching themselves there. But if there is one thing that is certain it is this; Toronto just won the 2015 MLB trade deadline.
