When did the Miami Dolphins become the ugly girl at the dance? It appears as if nobody wants to dance with the fins, no free agent players, no superstar quarterbacks, nobody. Dolphin fans were delirious with glee when the Indianapolis Colts decided to release legendary QB Peyton Manning, a likely landing spot according to the so called experts was South Florida. Manning barely acknowledged the dolphins during his rock star tour. According to team owner Stephen Ross, plan A was to sign Manning, it only made sense that plan B would be the next hottest free agent QB Matt Flynn from Green Bay the former home of new head coach Joe Philbin. Who around the NFL would know Flynn better than his former coach right? Well both plan A and plan B failed as the fins after being scorned by Manning were rejected by Flynn who inked a deal with the Seattle Seahawks. This only continued what has been a rather disturbing trend when it comes to the Dolphins. A once proud franchise with a glorious past, championships, an iconic head coach and two franchise quarterbacks, it seems so long ago. Now all we have around this franchise is a circus atmosphere ran by two buffoons owner Ross and the seemingly unfireable GM Jeff Ireland who have mastered the art of failure when it comes to restoring the dolphins once dominant past. According to Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark “No one wants to play for the Dolphins”, and that statement according to some fans may have some validity to it. I don’t ever remember a level of frustration as i have witnessed the past several seasons between the Dolphins and it’s fanbase. They have watched Ross and Ireland strike out each time in pursuit of a big name coach Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher. It appeared to be a lock that they would land Manning or Flynn at least, no cigar. Ticket sales in recent years have been sluggish, games threatened by blackouts, and the losing, oh the losing 6 out of the past 8 seasons have produced more loses than wins. No longer the only show in town, we now have a star studded NBA team and a MLB team that appears to be on the verge. Even the NHL franchise has shown signs of improvement but the Dolphins? Well they have been…oh well they have been the Dolphins. No longer do fans want to hear the stories of 17-0, they are tired of imperfect seasons around here. Once home to the no name defense Miami is now home to a no name football team as they simply have not been able to attract the fans in droves the way they use to,not been able to attract big name players or coaches. Maybe by the time you are reading this, someone would have signed on to help turn things around. We need something good to happen to this team and its fans. The ugly girl at the dance it seems is in desperate need of a facelift.
