Kobe Bryant suffered a set back on his quest to return to the basketball court after enduring an achilles injury last season.
Just six games and a Facebook video after his return from rehab, Read the rest of this entry »
It’s so nice that Kobe’s team mates go by and check on him in his time of healing. Pau “The Spaniard” Gasol took a trip to Kobe’s crib and made sure that Kobe wasn’t on his feet, trying to get in an early rehab.
The Taiwanese video factory that has been cranking out these videos has been a little off lately with some of their videos. This one isn’t any different. I just felt that maybe someone could get a laugh out of this.
No matter the sport , all of us can appreciate greatness. It is a word in sports that is used too often but does not always apply to any particular situation. However when speaking of one Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers we are watching a great player who should be approaching the twilight of his career. We are watching an athlete whose skills should be clearly diminishing at 34 years old. We have seen it happen with many of his peers, some of them no longer in the NBA. Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, and let’s not forget the next Michael Jordan candidates Vince Carter and Grant Hill who are still hanging around as shells of their former selves . No indictment on those guys but they all aged well and saw their skills slowly dwindle away. What 34 year old Bryant is doing is highly unusual, we have seen it before in Michael Jordan who was still winning championships at this age and Kareem Abdul Jabbar was still a force as he approached 40. Currently Bryant is third in the NBA in scoring and shooting the highest percentage of his career. He still has the ability to rise over defenders and throw down vicious slam dunks, he still has his younger defenders watching in awe as he hits big shot after big shot. Greatness. That is what we are all witnessing with Bryant, we should all appreciate it while we can. It is easy to recognize in other sports as well, Jerry Rice and Brett Favre in the NFL who were able to be so great for so long, athletes who display that will to be the best, to train harder, to outlast their opponent like Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe in tennis, like Sugar Ray Leonard in boxing who flat out refused to quit in that first fight with Thomas Hearns. This is about that sheer desire to be the best and making the commitment to maintain that standard. Whether the LA Lakers make the playoffs or not this year is not the point here, it is the level of play of the Black Mamba with all of those years of wear and tear on that body. He defies logic. One would expect the games best player today LeBron James to dominate as he has, he is 28 and at the prime of his career. Bryant is another story all together. The seventeen year veteran is not showing many signs of slowing down. Father time will win in the end, last I checked he was undefeated. Nobody beats father time, but Kobe Bryant is giving him one helluva fight. We should all watch, appreciate and enjoy.
This makes sense on all levels. The Black Mamba is not a young Mamba anymore. The weight of last season I really think caught up with the Lakers and older teams (except the Celtics). So it only is right that now that the NBA will be back in it’s regular season length, that the older players monitor everything.
Coach Mike Brown thinks so…
“If I can, I’d definitely love to keep his minutes down and not have them up to 38,” Brown said. “But I’m sure he’ll tell you he can play 48, which is probably true if he needed to. But we feel like we have a deep team this year and hopefully at the end of the day it leads to reduced minutes for him.”
The luxury of having a deep roster is just what Brown says. Reduced minutes for your superstars. Remember it’s not what happens in November through March that counts. It’s April through June that really matters.
Funny there was no mention of limiting Steve Nash’s minutes though.
…that he’s ever been around”.
I knew that headline would grab you. And that was the point.
“On its face, it’s the best talent I’ve been around,” said Bryant, via the Los Angeles Times. “Whether that translates into winning a championship, that remains to be seen. But just on paper, you’re obviously talking about defensive players of the years, MVPs, All-Stars. You’re talking about a myriad of things where guys are on top of their position and have been at the top of their position.”
Kobe makes a great point about it translating into a championship remains to be seen. Everyone thought the 2010-2011 Miami Heat had all the talent in the world to win it all. But obviously the talent, and a mental lapse by Lebron James, kept them from winning it all and instead the Dallas Mavericks were crowned champs.
I’m thinking Shaq, Robert, Derek and the rest of the boys are not too pleased.
WDVD. What Did Vanessa Do when she saw this picture come across this picture of her man? Did she
A. call him and curse him out
B. just stare at the computer and shake her head
C. yell “see…this is why n*$$#s ain’t sh!t
D. immediately call her divorce lawyer and say “oh..it’s on!”
According to TMZ, Kobe was partying it up in Barcelona and someone spilled a drink on him that left his entire shirt soaked.
Okay. First of all drinks in the club are not big enough to drench an entire shirt. Unless it was one of those Club Liv $100k bottles of Rose. A little drenched in the corner or on the chest, sure. But not coming-out-of-the-thunderstorm drenched.
But hey, when you’re the Mamba partying it up overseas, it’s well within your rights to tease the locals with a little eye candy. Welcome to the Kobe system ladies…
Maybe she was with him shooting in the gym.
Vanessa Bryant will NOT sign documents to make her divorce final. She and Kobe are working on a full reconciliation.
Kobe and Vanessa are trying to work out the issues that caused her to file for divorce back in December. They have been spending a lot of time together but he has not officially moved back in with her.
Good for Kobe. Too many athletes and people in general are getting a divorce now a days. If he can work it out, and keep the other “Black Mamba” in his pants, the could be together for the long haul.
