Sports World’s Angry Reaction To Zimmerman Verdict

220px-TrayvonMartinHoodedThis past weekend Jurors found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The six-member, all-women jury deliberated for more than 15 hours over two days before reaching its decision.

Martin was killed on Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford, Fla., as he was returning to a gated community, carrying candy and iced tea.

Zimmerman a neighborhood crime-watch volunteer, was accused of profiling Martin as a criminal and following him with a loaded gun, initiating the fatal confrontation. Zimmerman claimed that he shot Martin in self-defense after he was knocked to the ground and Martin was banging his head against the pavement. Professional athletes reacted with anger, shock and pleas for calm. They all chimed in from the NFL, NBA and MLB. There was a uniformed reaction from these athletes who like many of us could not believe that Zimmerman got to walk scott free.
The case had captivated all parts of the sports world. In March 2012, a photograph showing members of the NBA Champion Miami Heat wearing hooded sweatshirts, their heads bowed, in a powerful salute to Martin. Miami superstar Lebron James added “We Want Justice” This display of solidarity from the Heat endeared them to the black community and others who supported the Martin family who very much appreciated this display of support.

More athlete reaction followed Saturday night via Twitter after the shocking not guilty verdict. Many athletes reacted harshly and angrily including NY Giants Victor Cruz who tweeted “Zimmerman doesn’t last a year til the hood catches up to him.” The tweet was later deleted. He apologized for the tweet on Sunday and wrote his “prayers continue to go out to Trayvon Martin’s family.” The Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade wrote “Wow!!! Stunned!!! Saddened as a father!!! Some1 make sense of this verdict for me right now please!!! Don’t worry I’ll wait…” a clear indication of his frustration with the verdict. Shaquille O Neal, Steph Curry, Chris Paul highlighted an array of current and former NBA stars who reacted with utter dismay. One tweet that stood out to me came from the Chicago Bulls Nazr Muhammad who wrote “Don’t know what the appropriate punishment is but this sets an ugly precedence. Gotta feeling were gonna see more cases like this” hashtag profiling. Even myself writing this article stood speechless for almost five minutes, shaking my head in utter disbelief. I looked at my son who is nine years old and realized that sadly I must continue to teach him the things that I have been telling him all along.
I told him these words “You are prey, not only from others that look just like you but from a system, a nation that continues to tolerate racial profiling” . It is hard to believe that my son going to the store to buy candy is NOW a risky proposition. President Obama said if he had a son he would LOOK like Trayvon Martin. Sadly the way Trayvon Martin looked is the reason he is dead. The sports world has echoed what most of us felt in the aftermath of this verdict, it is a another sad day in America.

Dwyane Wade’s ex $1 million lawsuit thrown out

wgntv-dwayne-wades-exwife-exwife-facing-attempted-child-abduction-charges-loses-attorneys-20120619_540x405
The last thing 3 time NBA Champion Dwyane Wade wanted to do this off season was to sit in a court room arguing over money. Thanks to a judge, he won’t have to. He can continue to enjoy this offseason.

Siohvauhgn Funches-Wade was taking “3” to court to sue him for $1 million in endorsement money he was supposed to “share” with her. The lawsuit was dismissed at the request of Funches-Wade believe it or not.

There was probably a settlement made, but regardless, “3” more than likely was probably more than happy at the outcome.

James returning to Cleveland is a great myth

The summer of 2014.
Never has a summer of free agency in the NBA been so highly anticipated since 2010, and the main reason it is so anticipated is because of the same characters who made the summer of 2010 so crazy.

Dwyane Wade.

Chris Bosh.

and of course him. Lebron James. You all remember this right?

The words “take my talents to South Beach” will forever live on in the annals of sports history.
But even though everyone will take that quote and will run with it forever, it was the words that he uttered after, that really hit home and make the most sense now. Yes especially now, when everyone and their moms wants to talk about the Summer of 2014, and if Lebron James will bolt from the team he sacrificed and gave up so much to come and play for.

What sacrifices you ask? We can get into that later.

But it’s these words that should shut up everyone who dares to question rather if Lebron James will decide to come back to the Miami Heat after he opts out (for more money) next year.

I feel like this…this is gonna give me the best opportunity to, to win, and to win for multiple years. Um, and not only just to win in the regular season or just to win 5 games in a row or 3 games in a row. Um, I want to be able to win championships and I feel like I can compete down there

King James

There. That right there ladies and gentlemen, is why the talk and speculation should end about Lebron bolting for anywhere next year. Especially the talk about him going back to Cleveland.
Why must we do this to ourselves? I ask my brothers and sisters in the media is there not enough to talk about?

The Heat won a 2nd consecutive championship in their third try. The team, largely in tact will return for another run at it this year. Ray. Mario. Even the Birdman is coming back. Sure the Nets got better, on paper. Yes Derrick Rose is coming back (we think). And the Pacers will be hungrier than ever.
The competition will be stiff. Maybe that’s why folks are already foaming at the mouth and fingertips to talk and write about Lebron heading somewhere else next year.
earned

Ok so the Lakers will have a lot of cap space. Do you think Lebron watches how Dwight Howard jetted off to Houston, because of a difference of, well everything with the Lakers and says to himself “oooh yeah I want some of that drama”?

Word is Carmelo may leave New York. Yeah right. And Lebron will just jump right in his place right? Ha.
Just because Carmelo’s wife LaLa has a budding career in LA, doesn’t mean he’s willing to give up the bright lights of Madison Square Garden for the silicone and weave of Los Angeles (Clippers or Lakers).

And then there’s Cleveland. Smh (that means “shaking my head”). Lebron James going back to Cleveland is like the guy who leaves his longterm girlfriend for another chick who gives and spoils him with everything. And then one day he decides to go back to that longterm girlfriend, just because he’s tired of being spoiled. Yeah…that happens everyday (<----sarcasm)

Here's what Cleveland has to offer Lebron this time around: Mike Brown as Coach, a broke down Andrew Bynum, a fragile Kyrie Irving, along with Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller, Alonzo Gee, rookie No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett, free agent pickup Jarrett Jack ( who was very vocal about the way Lebron left Cleveland and the partnering of the super stars in South Beach), Tristan Thompson, and Dion Waters.

Is that more enticing than winning more rings in Miami?

We all must prepare ourselves for this craziness starting in October and all the way through June.
God forbid if the Heat don't win a championship. The noise will get so loud that dogs would start howling.

Nevertheless it has already started, and will only continue to get louder through the season. And I've got to do all I can to keep the noise away from me.
Lebron will not go back to Cleveland or anywhere for that matter folks. Not right now. Try again in about 5-8 years.

Dwyane Wade on knees: “There won’t be surgery”

Heats-Dwyane-Wade-out-with-sore-left-knee-R618HKMC-x-large

Those two knees that Dwyane Wade said he had a conversation before game 7 wont need surgery after all. Just a lot of downtime and treatment according to the now 3 time NBA Champion.

‘A lot of rest is going to be key for them. I’m going to treat my knees very well this ummer.’

Those knees were definitely the topic of conversation during the playoffs. With Wade having career lows in scoring, many felt that he was done and there was no way that the Heat would have been able to advance without him.
But he “gutted it out” and brought the city of Miami it’s third Larry O’Brien trophy. Now, go rest up Wade.

Dwyane Wade surprises teen and escorts her to high school prom

Imagine if you’re a high school senior getting ready for prom. You have a date, but your ideal date would the hometown superstar basketball player. So you create a youtube video asking Dwayne Wade (yes him) to escort you to the prom.

You take a shot almost guaranteeing yourself that you don’t think he will ever answer. But then, as you’re getting ready to go out to the prom (with your second choice of a prom date) the doorbell rings and at the door is….Mr. Wade.

wade

Smooth move by the ailing Heat star as he gets ready for his 3rd consecutive eastern conference finals. Hell he doesn’t have much else to do as the Knicks and Pacers battle it out.

Nice job WoW.

Doubting Dwyane Wade doesn’t work. So why do we continue to?

So here we are again, in another playoff year with the Miami Heat, and some things have changed, while some things have stayed the same. Let’s start with the changes.

This years Miami Heat has a

  • better all around team and chemistry
  • a deeper bench
  • a better Lebron James
  • a new baby on the way for Chris Bosh

Now, the things that are the same are

  • Dwyane Wade playing injured in the playoffs
  • Heat fans not using perspective when discussing his role with the team.

I just have one simple message for Heat fans and media who are complaining about the Wade they are seeing night in and night out. SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH AND DON’T EVER DOUBT D WADE AGAIN!!!

It doesn’t make sense and I”m sick and tired of trying to make sense of it. Chicago Bulls fans have been crying, begging and pleading with their star Derrick Rose to come back and give their team and city a lift as they have battled in these playoffs.  Game 7 came upon us in Brooklyn, and Bulls faithful thought they would surely see Rose suit up for this do or die game. NOPE. Joakim Noah guaranteed a victory and delivered. Without Rose.

I’m on the record and have documented how I thought he should have came back earlier in this series when the Bulls looked like the walking dead. I can understand how Bulls fans will complain about this.

But what I don’t understand is why Miami Heat fans continue to complain about a guy who is visibly hurt and not 100%…BUT HE’S GIVING THEM MINUTES ON THE FLOOR! Somebody help me please understand this.

It became more evident to me on Monday night when Wade was bumped in the knee by Jimmy Butler that he isn’t right. He left play for a few minutes. I feared the worst. I thought he was done for the series if not the immediate future. Then lo and behold, I hear the announcer say a few minutes later “Dwyane Wade is back at the scorers table getting ready to check in”. WTF?

Okay so maybe he isn’t as hurt as I originally thought. Well that would be better then. Let him come back in and try to get things going.

But then I thought, “wow something is really wrong with Wade if he’s still hurt after all of this rest the team has had since eliminating the Bucks and resting for 8-10 days”. Now with this series with the Bulls looking to end on Wednesday night, what will more rest (and rust) do to this team and more importantly Wade? Is rest the answer, or dare I say….surgery?

Skip Bayless and I think along the same lines here.

Whatever the outcome, Heat fans and media pundits have seen this before with Wade, and should not expect a different outcome.

Is he hurt? Yes.

Is he giving the team something other than 25 points per game? Yes.

Is he injured? Possibly.

Is he Derrick Rose? No.

Now…about this capri suit…

Dear Dwyane Wade

Dear Dwayne,

I know it’s playoff time which means crazy fashion pre and post game, but for real can you tone it down? We get it you love fashion. Wearing your grandmother’s table cloth as a jacket the other night was, um, an interesting choice. I just thought if you were going to wear a table cloth jacket you might have just put some clear plastic over your pants so nothing would spill on them.

I thought after the table cloth jacket and the response from it perhaps you would tone it done a bit, but I was sorely mistaken. You capris pant suit you wore last night was down right offensive. I mean for real? You actually thought wearing your son’s pants was a good look? No one was talking about the game, they were talking about what you wore to the game. Whoever your stylist is doesn’t like you and you need to get rid of them and fast. At this rate they’ll have you wearing one of Gabrielle’s dresses and telling you it’s a stylish kilt imported from the Highlands of Scotland.

Speaking of the ever beautiful Gabrielle, how the hell did you slip out of the hotel room or your Chicago home wearing that and she didn’t stop you to tell you to check one of the many mirrors I assume you have in your house or in the hotel room? The guys from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy were calling foul and they don’t know anything about basketball. Please Dwyane I implore you, just come to the game dressing like you’re going to work and not work a Milan runway show.

If your teammates didn’t crack jokes at you then there are plenty of people online who did:

Wade and Durant Gatorade commercial (video)

wade_durant
At first look at this commercial, I thought it painted Kevin Durant in a bad light. It went back to a bad time in his career, having lost the NBA Championship to Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat. Never would I think that an athlete would allow a moment like that to be used for a commercial.
But I continued to watch and saw what I think was pretty creative. If you haven’t seen it yet, I won’t ruin it for you.
Take a look

Dwyane Wade and sons Dove commercial

wadesons

This Dove commercial couldn’t have come at a better time for D-Wade. With his ex-wife Siovaughn constantly trying to drag his name through the mud (she appeared on Dr. Phil recently) in the media, any positive for him is nothing but a plus.

Wade and his sons Zion and Zaire filmed this commercial for what looks to be another endorsement opp for the Miami Heat’s star guard. Wade has been public about his fatherhood and how important it has been to him. Although it’s a commercial, there is a lot of genuiness behind it all.
