After a long night at the American Airlines Arena, Jeff and I decided we had had enough of the Miami Heat’s beat down of the New York Knicks. We hung around after the game for a while, spoke to a few journalist, took some pictures with people and decided to leave.
As we walked by the Knicks locker room, I noticed how packed and long the line was outside. This was more than 45 minutes after the game and they had not opened the doors yet. Then I saw the paramedics and the gurney.
Did someone fall? Did one of the AAA employees faint because of heat exhaustion?
No. I did a quick check on Twitter and saw the news.
“Paramedics are working on a laceration to the left hand of Amar’e Stoudemire, per #Knicks spokesman. Injury was suffered after the game.”
WTF? The Knicks are falling apart at the seams, and it’s only fitting that they are. A team that stuck together this season by duct tape and Elmer’s glue. D’Antoni quit. Lin-sanity came and went. Carmelo has been out and so has Amare.
But Monday night’s events take the cake. Amare Stoudemire, upset that the fact that his patchwork team is down 0-2 to the Miami Heat, decided to punish a fire extinguisher on the way to the locker room. He left the arena with his hand heavily bandaged and in a sling.
Folks thought the Knicks could give the Heat a little challenge in this first round. But after getting blown away in game one by 35, and getting suffocated down the stretch in game 2, a lot of people are starting to bring out the dreaded “S” word. You know..the one that has to do with brooms?
