Miami Versus Notre Dame Rekindles A Glorious Past
There was no better rivalry in college football. I hated Notre Dame with every thing in me . They were the establishment, the catholics while Miami was more street , the black hats with swag, labeled perhaps unfairly…. convicts. I could still hear Brent Musburger’s voice clearly rooting for the Irish.
This is gonna be nostalgic week for fans of the Hurricanes and the Fighting Irish . Understandably so. This however is a new era of Canes vs Irish. New faces, new names, same ole passion.
Both teams are back in the top 10 after many years of mediocrity . Third ranked Notre Dame will visit the 7th ranked Canes with national championship implications on Saturday night. Excuse me while i dust off my Randal Hill jersey.
The Hurricanes finally played a complete game on Saturday dispatching a good Virginia Tech team 28-10, and the Irish outscored Wake Forest 48-37 . Notre Dame has been more dominant in their victories while Miami has been eeking out wins but none of that matters come Saturday.
ESPN’s national College Game Day Show will be in Coral Gables. A hearty welcome back to national prominence should be extended to both teams. Man, this feels good.
“People are starting to get excited about the ‘Canes,” Miami defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said.
There is something special about living in this city when the Canes are really good. They embodie who Miami really is more than any other pro or college team in any sport in this town .
Miami may have a revenge factor working for them. They hold the nations longest winning streak by a division 1 FBS school. The last loss was against Notre Dame 30-27 in South Bend. Buckle up folks this is gonna be good. I can’t help thinking about Cleveland Gary being robbed of a touchdown and Jimmy Johnson saying to his team, “Do not leave this game in the hands of the officials”.
I wanted to fight somebody after that travesty. The anger, the hatred, the frustration never leaves no matter how long ago it was. This is Miami against Notre Dame. They hate us and we hate them.
We all get to fight again on Saturday Night at Hard Rock Stadium.
