Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade named EC POW
The in season awards just keep piling up for the Miami Heat players, and coaches. After dominating from December through February with Player of the Month awards, Lebron James slight relaspse in play gave way for one of his team mates to bask in some love.
MIAMI, FL –The NBA announced today that Miami HEAT guard Dwyane Wade was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 4, through Sunday, March 10. This marks the 45th time in franchise history a HEAT player has earned Player of the Week honors and the 16th time Wade has earned the honor, tying the most in team history.
Wade led the HEAT to a perfect 4-0 record averaging 25.3 points, 5.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 3.50 steals while shooting 60.6 percent from the field and 88.2 percent from the foul line. He posted one double-double while leading the team in steals and minutes three times each and in points and assists once each. He scored at least 20 points in each contest and has now posted nine consecutive 20-point games. He also shot at least 50 percent from the field in all four games and has currently hit at least 50 percent of his field goal attempts in 10-straight games, one shy from tying his career-best streak (minimum 10 attempts). Additionally, he recorded at least one steal in each contest last week and now has a steal in a career-best 22 consecutive games, which also ties for the second-longest such streak in HEAT franchise history.
Wade started the week off posting a 32-point, 10-assist double-double while grabbing seven rebounds in a 16-point, 97-81, win at Minnesota on March 4. Then on March 6 vs. Orlando, he shot 10-of-16 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line, while scoring 24 points and recording a game-high four steals in a 97-96 victory. He posted 22 points, four assists, three steals, two rebounds and a block helping the HEAT to a 102-93 win vs. Philadelphia on March 8. The victory clinched a postseason berth for the HEAT, marking the earliest date and most games remaining to have achieved the feat in franchise history. Wade capped off the week recording a season-high six steals while scoring 23 points in a 14-point, 105-91, win vs. Indiana.
Among league leaders this season, Wade ranks tied for eighth in steals per game (1.79), ninth in scoring average (21.8), 21st in field goal percentage (.523), 27th in assists per game (4.9) and tied for 36th in minutes per game (34.7).
