Miami Heat & announcer apologizes for remarks towards Amare Stoudemire

The last time Amare Stoudemire was in the American Airlines Arena, he left us with a bloody hand and a broken fire extinguisher.
Last night when he fouled out of the game with about 5 minutes left, he was reminded of it as he walked off the floor.
Miami Heat PA announcer Mike Baiamonte, who has been doing that job for 22 years and is known for some of his colorful phrases said

Offensive foul on the Knicks!! On Amare Stoudemire. That’s his sixth…he’s been extinguished from the game!

That…was…great! I love a good line from a PA announcer! That’s a classic line that should go down in Heat-Knicks rivalry history!!

But the Miami Heat, the class organization that they are decided that an apology was in order and releases this

Last night at our game, our PA Announcer had a momentary lapse of judgment and used a poor choice of words in describing Amar’e Stoudemire’s fouling out of the game. This is not who we are as an organization or who he is as an announcer. Both the Miami HEAT and Michael Baiamonte apologize to Amar’e and the New York Knicks for the inappropriate choice of words.

I doubt Mike B. will lose any money or his job over this. Riley probably pulled him into the office, gave him a glass of wine and had a good laugh over it.

Kudos to Mike B!
