Miami Dolphins GM search brings confusion, clarity.

As the search for Jeff Ireland’s successor continues, owner Stephen Ross felt it was necessary to clear up the confusion on what exactly the new GM’s role would be within the franchise.

There were reports that the GM would essentially be powerless, leading to execs around the league steering people away from the job whom were otherwise interested

To add that, the Fritz Pollard Alliance Association, which monitors the hiring of minorities in football, was not satisfied with the clarity of the position and was recommending that minority candidates not interview with the Miami Dolphins.

Subsequently the Miami Dolphins and Steve Ross released a statement to clarify what the position would entail.

The new General Manager will have autonomous responsibility for the 53 man roster and selecting players during the draft and will report to me. First and foremost, this person must have a passion for the game and demonstrated player evaluation expertise. They will need to be a person who is a collaborative team player that puts the organization first. Regardless of reporting structure, the relationship between the General Manager and Coach Philbin must be one of trust, respect, and collaboration, and this will be an area we will look closely at during the process. This individual also must be a person with integrity who is open-minded and creative.

The Fritz Pollard Alliance was pleased.

Hopefully now that most if not all parties are satisfied and are clear, the Dolphin organization can now move forward with hiring the next GM.

Stay tuned…

Why not make Carl Peterson President of football operations if Ross is always running to him for football advice?

Goodell needs to start screening owners better to make sure they have an idea of what the fuck they’re doing. Can’t be all that hard to find an owner (s) who want to buy this franchise.
