Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria must have one of those mirrors that tells him exactly what he wants to hear. “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the best baseball owner of them all?” . Chances are if we gave that mirror some truth syrum it would tell Mr Loria “Well it sure as heck ain’t you buster!!”
The Marlins misguided owner out took full page ads in all four major South Florida newspapers this past weekend, blaming everyone except himself for what ails his franchise. This guy simply just does not get it. Obviously he must think South Florida baseball fans are clueless when he says things like “Objective experts credited us with going from the 28th ranked minor league system in baseball to the fifth best.” Truly he must be losing it, which moron could not improve a depleted minor-league system by trading off the majority of its best major-league players? I guess we should all be relieved that the $450 million Loria received in public money to build a new stadium is according to him a, “burden incurred by tourists who are visiting our city,” and “NOT the resident taxpayers.” Really Jeffrey ?
Let the record show that Loria received a publicly funded brand new stadium, acquired big name players one year, got us all excited that we would contend for years to come and then had the dreaded fire sale shipping everyone off and now he sits in position to profit financially while we are saddled with a triple A team. One of those prized free agents signed a year ago shortstop Jose Reyes said the owner told him to buy a house in Miami – and two days later traded him.
Furthermore Loria sent workhorse pitcher Mark Burhle to Toronto of all places knowing his pet pit bulls aren’t allowed there. So the Burhle family will live in Chicago this season while Mark plays in Toronto. That Loria has a heart of gold doesn’t he ? Loria’s mistakes and poor baseball decisions saddled him with a hefty payroll but he never blamed himself. He blamed the under performing players that drew over 2.2 million fans to Marlins Park a year ago. Josh Johnson, Anibal Sanchez, the aforementioned Burle and Reyes are all gone. Good luck even sniffing 2 million fans this year Mr Loria. Nice gesture with the letter but this Marlin fanbase has been burned by this regime before. Fool me once shame on you, fool me…..oh, nevermind.
