Heat Big Man Whiteside More Focused Than Ever

Hassan Whiteside put up some monster numbers as the Miami Heat dropped it’s season opener against the Orlando Magic.  He finished the evening with 26 points and 22 rebounds in 36 minutes, shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Earlier in his career as he was breaking into the NBA Whiteside may have been busy patting himself on the back after such an impressive performance. That is no longer the case. He wants to win. Sure the all star snub still bothers him, but Whiteside and his Heat teammates thrive on proving the naysayers wrong and that is the team’s mindset heading into Saturday night’s home opener against the Indiana Pacers at the American Airlines Arena. Last season’s 30-11 second half is still fresh on everyone’s collective minds but these guys could care less about moral victories. They know what it took to dig deep and turn it around last season. In fact nobody cares about last season right now. Whiteside and his teammates care about just one thing. Winning.

Whiteside became the first player since 2007 to notch at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in a season opener. Impressive right ? However all he wanted to talk about post game was how to finish, how to get a difficult win on the road. Accolades are nice but the mindset of this team, the Heat Culture as we say is about one thing. To out work the opponent. To put team before self. This will be an easy team to root for once again. To a man they all share a similar trait. They all have that chip on the shoulder. They all want to prove the doubters wrong. They all want to win.
