Dolphins Preseason Game Against the Atlanta Falcons
Typically the first preseason game of the season is meant for the younger players looking to make the team while the starters sit the game out and tonight’s game against the Atlanta Falcons was just that. The younger players played and quite a few of them shined. Those same players led the Dolphins to a 23-20 victory over the Dolphins.
Although the newly signed Jay Cutler was seen on the field prior to the game throwing passes with Matt Moore; did not suit up to play in the preseason game. With Matt Moore only playing a series, the majority of the snaps were taken by David Fales and Brandon Doughty who combined for 3 touchdown passes and two interceptions. There was no greater touchdown than the 99 yard pass from David Fales to rookie wide receiver, Damore’ea Stringfellow, which gave the Dolphins the lead for good. Although it will be tough for both Fales and Stringfellow to make the team as they are way down on the roster, their play should help them make the practice team. Whether they make the practice team with the Dolphins will remain to be seen.
Other positives from the game were the emergence of rookie defensive tackle, Davon Godchaux, who made the most of his start with being disruptive up the middle. With Dolphins running back, Jay Ajayi, out with a concussion Kenyan Drake had some nice runs as he looked to secure the backup job to Ajayi. While the offensive line looked great, barely giving up any pressure on the quarterback, it is too early in the preseason to adequately say that they have improved from last season.
The Dolphins next preseason game will be against the Baltimore Ravens on August 17th at 7:00 pm.
