Colin Kaepernick Continues To Win Off The Field

America’s game. The big bad National Football League where everybody must play by their rules or perish without them. ……or so they thought. After nearly a season of being banished from the NFL and not being given an opportunity to compete for a job he is clearly more than qualified for. Colin Kaepernick continues to win off the gridiron. Last night he accepted Sports Illustrated’s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award,  the former 49ers quarterback said he will continue to fight racial injustice in America whether or not he gets another shot in the NFL.

“I say this as a person who receives credit for using my platform to protest systemic oppression, racialized injustice and and the dire consequences of anti-blackness in America,” Kaepernick said at SI’s Sportsperson of the Year ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“I accept this award not for myself, but on behalf of the people. Because if it were not for my love of the people, I would not have protested. And if it was not for the support from the people, I would not be on this stage today.”

As the days and months go on it is obvious that Kaepernick was blackballed from the NFL in a clear case of collusion among the owners to teach him or any other player who sought to use their platform to protest a lesson.  Do not mess with our ( The NFL’s) money or face the consequences.

Kaepernick has said since day one that his actions in no way shape or form was meant  as a sign of disrespect toward the military or the nation .  Again after receiving yet another award for his selflessness he reminded America of the real reason for his protest. With that being known, still  many have tried their best to change the narrative. Despite the efforts of his detractors including the President of the United States. Colin Kaepernick continues to win off the field.  He continues to be hailed as a champion for the people .

Kaepernick has now been honored  by GQ Magazine, Sports Illustrated among others and his name is being mentioned for a Time magazine award as well. Somehow i cannot envision these legendary publications seeking to honor someone that is anti-american. This is a man who is fighting to bring attention to the plight of his people and the NFL has basically banned him for doing so.  Regardless Kapaernick it seems  will keep up his social activism on and off the football field whether he throws another touchdown pass or not.

Depending on what side of the fence you stand on, his place in history seems secure ,  not for being a big winner on the football field. Rather for the conversations he has sparked, the changes he has helped bring about and the winning he has done off the field.

Like it or not Colin Kaepernick is winning.
