Chris Mortensen reports on the potential end of the Pro Bowl

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported this morning that the league is looking to end the annual trip to Hawaii for football players, also know as the NFL Pro Bowl.

Sources say that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has previously voiced his displeasure with the lack of competitiveness in recent Pro Bowl games, is strongly considering suspending this year’s game, sources say.

Beyond 2013, another league source believes the Pro Bowl is “DOA (dead on arrival).”

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I understand that the game can be boring and the guys aren’t playing at full speed. The players have a fine balance as to play good enough not get hurt, yet be entertaining enough for the fans at the game and at home watching on tv.

The game is violent, and despite Roger Goodell’s quest to make it safer, there’s not a slow gear to the sport. It’s either all out or not at all.

Whatever the NFL decides there will be people that will and won’t be happy. Maybe they create some sort of fan friendly interactive event with the players for a weekend.

Stay tuned…
