They said FSU had about 15 NFL caliber players on it’s roster. I’m not sure if Devonta Freeman is one of them. Apparently he does. Read the rest of this entry »
As the search for Jeff Ireland’s successor continues, owner Stephen Ross felt it was necessary to clear up the confusion on what exactly the new GM’s role would be within the franchise.
There were reports that the GM would essentially be powerless, leading to execs around the league steering people away from the job whom were otherwise interested
Multiple NFL sources said today they would not advise anyone close to them to take #Dolphins GM job bec power structure is set up to fail

To add that, the Fritz Pollard Alliance Association, which monitors the hiring of minorities in football, was not satisfied with the clarity of the position and was recommending that minority candidates not interview with the Miami Dolphins.
Fritz Pollard Alliance Chairman John Wooten is advising minority candidates not to take #Dolphins GM job. Wooten concerned about structure

Subsequently the Miami Dolphins and Steve Ross released a statement to clarify what the position would entail.
The new General Manager will have autonomous responsibility for the 53 man roster and selecting players during the draft and will report to me. First and foremost, this person must have a passion for the game and demonstrated player evaluation expertise. They will need to be a person who is a collaborative team player that puts the organization first. Regardless of reporting structure, the relationship between the General Manager and Coach Philbin must be one of trust, respect, and collaboration, and this will be an area we will look closely at during the process. This individual also must be a person with integrity who is open-minded and creative.
The Fritz Pollard Alliance was pleased.
UPDATE: F.Pollard Alliance Chrmn John Wooten just spoke to #Dolphins. Is now satisfied with power of GM job. Recommends candidates interview

Hopefully now that most if not all parties are satisfied and are clear, the Dolphin organization can now move forward with hiring the next GM.
Darnell Dockett is one crazy mofo. He will do anything, and will most certainly say anything especially on social media.
A few weeks ago Dockett was on a radio show in Phoenix and said that he had bought a tiger cub and named it Little Buddy. He had plans on bringing “Little Buddy” to practice to meet the team and fans. He even posted a picture on instagram.
Dockett also said he had try to purchase a monkey, but that’s another story for another day.
Apparently the tiger story is not true. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported that a group out of Florida didn’t sell a cub to Dockett, and they didn’t know where the origin of the cub that was posted on social media.
”Although we do not know the origin of the tiger cub in the photo that Dockett posted on social media, it appears that his story about the cub’s parentage is false,”
The last thing the league or anyone else needs is to have Darnell Dockett’s crazy a$$ have a potential 600 pound mauling beast in his back yard, a la Tony Montana.
The summer of 2014.
Never has a summer of free agency in the NBA been so highly anticipated since 2010, and the main reason it is so anticipated is because of the same characters who made the summer of 2010 so crazy.
and of course him. Lebron James. You all remember this right?
The words “take my talents to South Beach” will forever live on in the annals of sports history.
But even though everyone will take that quote and will run with it forever, it was the words that he uttered after, that really hit home and make the most sense now. Yes especially now, when everyone and their moms wants to talk about the Summer of 2014, and if Lebron James will bolt from the team he sacrificed and gave up so much to come and play for.
What sacrifices you ask? We can get into that later.
But it’s these words that should shut up everyone who dares to question rather if Lebron James will decide to come back to the Miami Heat after he opts out (for more money) next year.
I feel like this…this is gonna give me the best opportunity to, to win, and to win for multiple years. Um, and not only just to win in the regular season or just to win 5 games in a row or 3 games in a row. Um, I want to be able to win championships and I feel like I can compete down there
There. That right there ladies and gentlemen, is why the talk and speculation should end about Lebron bolting for anywhere next year. Especially the talk about him going back to Cleveland.
Why must we do this to ourselves? I ask my brothers and sisters in the media is there not enough to talk about?
The Heat won a 2nd consecutive championship in their third try. The team, largely in tact will return for another run at it this year. Ray. Mario. Even the Birdman is coming back. Sure the Nets got better, on paper. Yes Derrick Rose is coming back (we think). And the Pacers will be hungrier than ever.
The competition will be stiff. Maybe that’s why folks are already foaming at the mouth and fingertips to talk and write about Lebron heading somewhere else next year.
Ok so the Lakers will have a lot of cap space. Do you think Lebron watches how Dwight Howard jetted off to Houston, because of a difference of, well everything with the Lakers and says to himself “oooh yeah I want some of that drama”?
Word is Carmelo may leave New York. Yeah right. And Lebron will just jump right in his place right? Ha.
Just because Carmelo’s wife LaLa has a budding career in LA, doesn’t mean he’s willing to give up the bright lights of Madison Square Garden for the silicone and weave of Los Angeles (Clippers or Lakers).
And then there’s Cleveland. Smh (that means “shaking my head”). Lebron James going back to Cleveland is like the guy who leaves his longterm girlfriend for another chick who gives and spoils him with everything. And then one day he decides to go back to that longterm girlfriend, just because he’s tired of being spoiled. Yeah…that happens everyday (<----sarcasm)
Here's what Cleveland has to offer Lebron this time around: Mike Brown as Coach, a broke down Andrew Bynum, a fragile Kyrie Irving, along with Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller, Alonzo Gee, rookie No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett, free agent pickup Jarrett Jack ( who was very vocal about the way Lebron left Cleveland and the partnering of the super stars in South Beach), Tristan Thompson, and Dion Waters.
Is that more enticing than winning more rings in Miami?
We all must prepare ourselves for this craziness starting in October and all the way through June.
God forbid if the Heat don't win a championship. The noise will get so loud that dogs would start howling.
Nevertheless it has already started, and will only continue to get louder through the season. And I've got to do all I can to keep the noise away from me.
Lebron will not go back to Cleveland or anywhere for that matter folks. Not right now. Try again in about 5-8 years.
What should have been a quiet off night for the Johnsons, turned into an arrest and a barrage of speculation on social media.
Chad Johnson and his wife Evelyn were coming from dinner when (according to the police report) Evelyn found a receipt for a box of condoms in the car.
They argue all the way home. In the driveway Chad allegedly head butts Evelyn. She did have to receive medical treatment for lacerations.
Johnson is currently in custody and will see a judge in the morning before bonding out.
This could prove costly to Chad and his attempt at making the Dolphins roster. I think it will come down to a need versus want for the Dolphins brass.
He made the right decision. Or should I say the doctors made the right decision for him.
Miami Heat captain Dwayne Wade will sit out this summer and not take part in the 2012 Olympics in London.
He confirmed today that he will have any necessary surgery on his knees and rest up for what many think can be a repeat bid to win an NBA title with the “Heatles”.
Wade informed USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski Thursday that he wasn’t healthy enough to play for Team USA.
Wade played through the injury in the playoffs and still managed to average 22.6 points per game during the NBA Finals.
I think it’s the right thing to do. He’s already got a gold medal, and for an athlete who’s sports is yearly, championships are probably more important than gold.
It would only seem right that the team in South Florida with the biggest stars on their team start to capitalize on those stars and what they bring to Miami and the nation.
When Chris Bosh and Lebron James joined Dwyane Wade on South Beach, they both knew that this move would be beneficial to them financially. Not just because of the contracts but the endorsement opportunities, lack of state tax, etc. And the Miami Heat organization knew that they could and would capitalize on the fame and the championships this team would bring.
The Miami Heat are involved in discussions for a blockbuster cable television deal that experts say are being enhanced by the long-term contract the team has with reigning league MVPLeBron James and its run towards a second NBA title.
Sources familiar with the negotiations, but who do not have permission to speak about them publicly, peg the value of the long-term deal between $80 million to $100 a a year with Fox Sports Florida. Although the Heat’s new deal will only be about half the amount Los Angeles Lakers are going to get from Time Warner Cable, it will still generate at least over four times the revenue the team currently rakes in.
This deal would be 2nd to the LA Lakers deal which is the richest in the league.
Get paid Mickey Arison!
Maybe she was with him shooting in the gym.
Vanessa Bryant will NOT sign documents to make her divorce final. She and Kobe are working on a full reconciliation.
Kobe and Vanessa are trying to work out the issues that caused her to file for divorce back in December. They have been spending a lot of time together but he has not officially moved back in with her.
Good for Kobe. Too many athletes and people in general are getting a divorce now a days. If he can work it out, and keep the other “Black Mamba” in his pants, the could be together for the long haul.
