Dancing With The Stars recruits 2 athletes

A Super Bowl winning wide receiver and a 18 time grand slam champion will grace the dance floor of the new season of Dancing With The Stars.

Donald Driver of the Green Bay Packers and Martina Navratilova are 2 of the 12 contestants on the popular dance show.

Martina will be paired with Tony Dovolani, whom is not pictured and who we don’t care to know what he looks like. Donald however will be paired with Peta Murgatroyd who danced with Ron Artest last year, and who we do have pictures of;)

Enjoy!

America’s most miserable sports cities

Relax Miami. We are not near the top 10. And I don’t think we will be anytime soon.

This list was compiled of cities who basically have been eliminated from playoff contention or who have not had a team make the playoffs in a while. Basically, if several teams in your city have broken your heart, then more than likely they made the list.

The top 5; Atlanta, Seattle, Phoenix, Buffalo, and San Diego. The bottom 5 include Houston, Denver, Cleveland, Kansas City, and Cincinnati.

Obama bumps NFL season opener to the Hump day

It doesn’t really matter when the NFL starts it’s season. I’m a believer that if it started it on a Tuesday afternoon at 1:37pm, the TV ratings would equal or surpass a prime time Monday Night Football matchup. This country is football crazy and nothing will keep us from watching the game.

The NFL announced that it will begin it’s 2012 season on a Wednesday night, as to not conflict with President Barack Obama’s DNC nominating speech.

Roger Goodell made the announcement that the regular season will begin Sept. 5, one day earlier than the traditional start on the first Thursday of the month. The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host the opener.

For those that may feel like the President should do a little juggling of his speech, well this is something I’m sure even he can’t totally control. And besides he has made some changes in the past as well. Like last year when he switched a scheduled jobs speech to 7 p.m. so it wouldn’t bleed into NBC’s coverage of the Green Bay Packers-New Orleans Saints game.

Gotta love a sports loving Prez.

Manning and Wayne could be a 2-4-1 deal

Peter “the” King of SI.com is reporting that Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne could be a package deal to land in a stadium near you (or near me which would be Sun Life Stadium where the Miami Dolphins play;).

This bit of news has football fans in about 6 cities salivating at the present moment. King writes,

Such a pairing would not only be a plus for Manning, who would love to see it happen, according to one NFL source. But also it would allow him to go to his new team with one familiar receiving face, and if you can say one thing about Manning, it’s that he loves familiarity, particularly in how his receivers anticipate throws and the precision of their route-running.

The South Florida area is on the verge of exploding with some superstar talent not only at the American Airlines Arena where the Heat play, but at Sun Life Stadium where the ‘Phins play. Reggie Bush, Brandon Marshall, and possibly Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne?? South Beach can’t get any hotter..or could it?

Lamar Odom may be done in Dallas

After missing the final game before the All Star break to be with his father Joe who is ill, Lamar Odom is still not back with the Dallas Mavericks.

Now the rumors are flying hot and heavy that Odom’s time in Dallas is done. Could a buy out be in the works in D-town? Mark Cuban doesn’t seem to think so.

“We haven’t discussed a buyout and we wouldn’t do a buyout. No chance that happens at all. We want to help Lamar work through any personal issues and expect him to be a valuable contributor to the Mavs this season. Players go through challenges from time to time and we try to be (an) organization that fully supports our players when things are challenging for them. We will do the same for Lamar.”

I like how Cuban mixes in sounding like a caring person about one of his guys, but at the same time saying “dude you are here wether you like it or not. You ain’t going nowhere!”

If you aren’t familiar with Lamar and his dad, check the video .

Chris Bosh gets early birthday gift from court

A family court judge in Orlando granted Chris Bosh permission to have his daughter attend his 27th birthday celebration.

Bosh, who had just finished the NBA All Star weekend festivities, stayed over in Orlando on Monday to go to court to get some sort of regular visitation to see his daughter. Allison Mathis, Bosh’s former girlfriend and mother of his daughter Trinity was also in attendance.

It’s wrong for women to purposely try and keep their kids away from their dads, but that’s another post for another day.

Chris Bosh gives Jeremy Lin advice

I don’t know why this was filed under the “bashing Jeremy Lin” files, but that’s how I came across it. Check the video and decide wether this was good advice or the popular term these days, hating.

The video was taken before the Knicks-Heat rivalry right before All Star weekend. I think Chris Bosh gives some great advice. Don’t start to believe the hype and don’t get caught up in your own celebrity. He says it best when he says “the same people that praise you will tear you down”. Especially in New York.

The kid has a ways to go to be “legit” in this league. If he keeps his Tebow ways, he should be fine.

Embarrassing fall during NFL combine

I’ve often wondered if anyone has fell while running the coveted 40 yard dash. I don’t have to wonder anymore.

Lebron James overly criticized and analyzed at All Star Game

I will continue to say this as long as Lebron James is in an NBA uniform: “Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t”.

In the closing moments of the NBA All Star game on Sunday, Lebron James once again left a game where he was lauded for his dunks. A game where he was applauded for his three point shooting in the 2nd half. But a game where he was once again criticized for not taking “that shot” in the clutch moments. A shot, mind you, that could have been a game winner, or a clunker off the rim. Instead of trying a shot over Kobe Bryant (who was yelling “shoot it” to him), James decided to pass the ball either to a Dwyane Wade or a Carmelo Anthony. The end result was a 2 point loss to the Western conference in the All Star weekends marquis event.

Never mind that Dwyane Wade bobbled a ball out of bounds on the way to a sure 2 points. Or that Deron Williams missed a pretty wide open 3 pointer moments before Lebron’s ill fated pass that was intercepted by Blake Griffin. Never mind that because of Lebron and Wade and others, that the East were able to close this game out because of a fury of points led by the aforementioned. The debate today is “why didn’t Lebron take that last shot?”

In instances like those I always defer to the person on the court. They such a better vantage point than me, sitting in my living room miles away watching it on tv. Analyst, pundits and critics won’t care. “Just shoot the ball” they cry. “Fulfill my destiny that I planned out for you” they scream. Blah blah blah.

Look, I won’t deny that LBJ needs a little more heart in certain situations. But the constant badgering and public lynching of this dude no matter whatever he does has got to stop or at least be put on pause until he actually does something that matters.

Marlins Ready To Make A Move

Go ahead wake up South Florida, because you are really not dreaming. Yes it is true
that your Miami Marlins spent over 200 million dollars this past off season to make your favorite ballclub legitamite playoff contenders in the National League. Spring training is underway in Jupiter and if you look around you will see some pretty high priced new faces like new manager Ozzie Guillen, and prized free agent acquisitions Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Burhle. This year’s squad is already being touted as potential challengers to the mighty Phillies in the NL East and why not? Starting pitching is a key as with most clubs, the health of ace Josh Johnson is paramount to a successful season. Newcomer Burhle is a workhorse who has gone 11 straight seasons with over 200 innings of work and double digit wins. Factor in Carlos Zambrano, Anibal Sanchez and Ricky Nolasco and collectively you have a nice group. It will also be interesting to see how this team responds to Guillens in-your-face- tell it like it is style, one thing is certain it will not be boring. Another potentially big issue is how superstar Hanley Ramirez responds to being moved to third base. Ramirez could have ended all speculation by saying though he prefers to remain at short, the Marlins are better with Jose Reyes. He did not say that. The Marlins spent most of the offseason telling Hanley “Hey it’s your team” Yet he is the one moving, it is after all for the good of the team and that is what a leader does. If Ramirez does not pout and plays to his potential you are looking at a very dangerous team and a high powered offense. Expect a big season from slugger Mike Stanton as well, he should flourish this season with all of these big bats in this lineup. The Marlins overall appear to be a solid club, moving into their new stadium who can blame the fans for dreaming and thinking big. This team is on the verge, the starting lineup is set. The rotation is good. Once a weakness the bullpen could be a source of strength depending on whether Juan Carlos Oviedo (formerly Leo Nunez) is still here. There are some minor things to sort out, what kind of contributions can we expect from guys like Chris Coghlan, Scott Cousins, Donnie “bleepin” Murphy. That’s what the grapefruit league is for, for now though, Marlins fans can enjoy the ride with this team. Dreams it appears, do come true.

About Jeff Fox

Jeff is a diehard Laker and Raider fan, but he supports the Canes, Marlins, Heat and Dolphins just the same. Jeff honed his radio skills as a host in the Bahamas on ZNS 3. After moving to Miami, he has also held it down on radio and in the club circuit, going by the name DJ Jeff Fox “In the Box”!
